The Department was founded in 1931 by S. D. Asfendiyarov. Since 2018, the Acting head of the Department is a candidate of sociological Sciences, associate professor Nagaybaeva Z. A.
The Department teaches five disciplines: modern history of Kazakhstan, philosophy, sociology, political science, cultural studies.
The faculty of the Department has published: 6 monographs, 4 textbooks and 27 teaching AIDS, published more than 700 scientific articles, including 22 international articles with impact factor, defended 1 doctoral and 11 master’s theses.
Teachers of the Department conduct multidisciplinary research work, in particular, research on scientific projects “Turkic Studies”, “Asfendiyarov Studies “. The research area of the faculty of the Department is: problems of scientific methodology of knowledge, development of the foundations of understanding of socio-political transformations, formation and preservation of humanistic worldview values of national identity in the conditions of globalization. Actively carries out the activities of the student scientific club “IbnSina”.
The teaching staff of the Department consists of 12 people, including 3 candidates of science and 1 doctor of PhD.
