International Cooperation
From May 25 to June 6, 2026, the Department of Prosthetic Dentistry of the School of Dentistry at Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University welcomed Visiting Professor Ali Z. Syed from the United States of America.
Ali Z. Syed is an Associate Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences at the School of Dental Medicine, Case Western Reserve University. He holds BDS, MHA, and MS degrees and has 25 years of professional experience.
During his 11-day academic visit, Professor Syed participated in the department’s educational activities. The program was conducted in English and focused on the exchange of experience in oral and maxillofacial diagnostics, modern two-dimensional and three-dimensional imaging methods, cone-beam computed tomography, and the application of artificial intelligence in dentistry.
The visit contributed to the professional development of students, residents, and faculty members and strengthened international cooperation between Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University and Case Western Reserve University.
International Conference “Modern Trends in Prosthetic Dentistry”
On June 5, 2026, Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University hosted the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Modern Trends in Prosthetic Dentistry.” The conference was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Kubeisin Duisenbayevich Altynbekov, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Academician of KazNAEN, and Head of the Department of Prosthetic Dentistry.
The conference brought together researchers, faculty members, dental practitioners, residents, and students from Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, the United States, and Türkiye. Representatives of KazNMU, Samarkand State Medical University, Tashkent State Medical University, Bukhara State Medical Institute, Kyrgyz State Medical Academy, Omsk State Medical University, RUDN University, Kazan Federal University, Case Western Reserve University, and other educational and healthcare institutions participated in the event.
The scientific program covered current areas of prosthetic dentistry, including digital planning and 3D modeling, the application of artificial intelligence and large language models in dental education and clinical practice, dental implantation, additive technologies, prosthetic rehabilitation of patients following maxillofacial surgery, diagnosis of temporomandibular joint disorders, and the use of digital protocols in the fabrication of dental prostheses.
Ali Z. Syed, Associate Professor at Case Western Reserve University, delivered a presentation on large language models and the application of generative artificial intelligence in dental education and clinical practice. International speakers also presented reports on socket preservation following tooth extraction, digital planning, aesthetic rehabilitation, ceramic veneers, modern implant techniques, and prosthetic treatment methods.
A separate part of the program was dedicated to poster presentations by faculty members, young researchers, residents, and students. Participants presented research on academic mobility, artificial intelligence, surgical implant placement, biologically oriented tooth preparation, bruxism, digital dentistry, and modern prosthetic materials.
The conference facilitated the exchange of scientific and clinical experience, expanded professional contacts, and strengthened KazNMU’s international cooperation with leading dental schools and medical universities abroad.
