The Department actively promotes and develops student research activities. The scientific student group “Pediatric Dentistry: Research and Innovation” brings together students interested in contemporary areas of pediatric dentistry.
Student research projects focus on digital methods for the diagnosis and prevention of dental diseases, personalized oral hygiene education, caries prevention in children with special needs, non-invasive technologies for the management of enamel demineralization, modern fissure-sealing techniques, development of pharmaceutical formulations for dentistry, and interactive digital learning technologies for children with special needs.
Participation of Students in International Scientific Events
During the 2025–2026 academic year, students of the Department presented the results of their research at the International Scientific Conference of Students and Young Scientists “Farabi Alemi”, held on April 7, 2026, at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Within the section “Current Issues in Dentistry: An Interdisciplinary Approach,” students presented research on the development of an individualized caries prevention program for children with special needs, controlled drug delivery systems in dentistry, and interactive digital learning technologies for children with special needs.
Of particular importance was the participation of the Department’s students in the International Olympiad, held on May 5–6, 2026, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, as part of the International Scientific and Practical Congress “Current Issues in Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery” and the conference dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry of Tashkent State Medical University.
The Department’s students achieved excellent results: Aisha Aliyeva — 1st place, Aishabibi Musabek — 1st place, Kamila Derkembayeva — 2nd place, and Saniya Niyazova — 2nd place. The Olympiad assignments covered contemporary practical areas of pediatric dentistry, including assessment of the oral hygiene index using QLF technology, isolation of the operative field using a rubber dam, and silvering of teeth according to the Pekker method.
Innovative Activities of Students
An important outcome of student research activities is the involvement of students in the development of intellectual property. In 2026, Zh.U. Yerkibayeva, Zhanelya Meirambekkyzy Kenesbekova, and Dayana Bolegen received Copyright Certificate No. 67081 for the development entitled “Methodology of interactive oral hygiene education for children using an author-designed jaw model and ultraviolet dental plaque indication.” The copyright certificate was registered on February 5, 2026.
